Northern Virginia continues to lead the nation in job growth — adding 53,000 new jobs in the first half of 2005.

Fairfax County accounted for more than any other jurisdiction. From June 2004 to June 2005, Fairfax County added an estimated 24,620 new jobs.

At this rate of growth, Fairfax County is accounting for roughly one-half of Northern Virginia's new jobs and one-third of all new jobs added in the Washington, D.C. region. See:

Meanwhile, area incomes are among nation's highest.

According to this report, the County's population population grew by 5.4 percent, or 52,400 residents, in the last five years.

With a total population of 1,022,100 residents, Fairfax County ranked third in overall population growth in Virginia, following Loudoun County's 48.8 percent growth, or 82,700 new residents, and Prince William County's 26.5 percent change, or 74,500 new residents.

Northern Virginia — which grew by 13.7 percent — led Virginia's population growth during the first half of the decade, making the commonwealth the seventh-fastest growing state in the United States.   See:
